Castrol and Romax Technology recently launched a new predictive maintenance brand for wind energy asset owners and operators.

Onyx InSight is a joint venture that will combine Castrol’s global reach and knowledge of wind turbine lubrication with Romax’s expertise in software, services and data analytics for gearboxes, bearings and rotating machinery.

The new venture is intended to deliver reduced operations and maintenance costs through a full range of services that give wind turbine owners complete visibility of a problem before enabling them to act on the analysis.

Benefits are realized via a combination of specialist engineering consultancy and an integrated platform of hardware and cloud-based software. This includes a condition monitoring system, a mobile solution for equipment inspection and reporting, and a web-based data analytics tool that brings all critical monitoring, inspection and maintenance data into one place.

“We are aiming to pave the way for a new era of predictive maintenance in which all variables affecting rotating machinery performance can be accounted for,” said Bruce Hall, CEO at Onyx InSight. “Giving operators complete visibility of the condition of their assets with the right data, analytical tools and guidance empowers them to take full control of their maintenance programs, reducing unexpected downtime and costs.”
