New MLT I Exam Presented in Italy

Suzy Jamieson, ICML

On March 6, 24 Italian practitioners sat for ICML's first Italian MLT I exam - Tecnico addetto alla lubrificazione di macchine - at the Italian School of Maintenance (Scuola Italiana di Manutenzione, SIMAN), located at Villa Montalto, a 17th-century villa in Florence, Italy.

The MLT I exam, administered in the Italian language, was sponsored by SIMAN and the Italian Association of Maintenance (Associazione Italiana Manutenzione, AIMAN). AIMAN is an allied organization of ICML and was instrumental in bringing the MLT I exam to Italy. AIMAN is also the organizer of the 2010 EuroMaintenance conference, which will take place in Rome.

Candidates in Training
Preceding the exam, candidates attended a training course instructed by Ray Thibault. The course was presented by SIMAN with the sponsorship of AIMAN. P.G. Adriani of Mecoil Diagnosi Meccaniche Srl, an independent, ISO-certified laboratory based in Florence, provided simultaneous translation. Mr. Adriani is a counselor member of AIMAN and a founding member of SIMAN.

The opening and introduction was presented by Ing. L. Furlanetto, past president of AIMAN. Other course presenters included Professor P. Bavazzano from Laboratorio Az. San. Fiorentina and Ing. A. Fazio of ENI Agip. Following the exam session, the candidates enjoyed lunch and a final debate, moderated by AIMAN president Ing. Vittorio Emmanuele, who was also responsible for the closing of the event.

Various industries were well represented in this event. In attendance were members of the Italian military as well as those from the power generation, automotive and manufacturing industries.

In Appreciation
P.G. Adriani, representing both SIMAN and AIMAN, was the council's direct contact and coordinator for this exam session. SIMAN works with the support of the University of Florence, and Professor Gianni Bettini of the engineering department monitored the MLT I exam session. The council wishes to extend a special thank you ("grazie") to these two gentlemen whose support is directly related to the success of the first Italian MLT I exam.
