Castrol Introduces Bio-based Motor Oil

Noria news wires

Castrol recently announced the launch of its Edge Bio-Synthetic motor oil. The bio-based lubricant utilizes the company's advanced eco-engineering to combine fluid titanium technology with 25 percent renewable plant-based oil compounds.

Employing the natural lubricating properties of plants, the oil will also be certified carbon neutral, with the carbon-dioxide footprint associated with the production, packaging, distribution and storage of the lubricant offset through BP Target Neutral.

"Castrol Edge Bio-Synthetic delivers 100 percent of the Castrol Edge performance our customers are accustomed to, combined with our advanced bio-technology to protect engines and reduce the environmental impact of their engine oil," said Tony Smith, Castrol's senior advisor for claims and demonstrations.

The new motor oil exceeds the fuel-economy performance criteria set by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC). The 25 percent bio content also allows it to feature the U.S. Department of Agriculture's certified bio-based product label.

The Edge Bio-Synthetic range will include 1- and 5-quart sizes as well as viscosity grades that cover the vast majority of American cars. The motor oil will be available for purchase beginning in January 2017.
