Metallized Carbon Corp.'s Metcar Grade M-133 recently received approval by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF), allowing it to be used for materials employed in the construction of commercial food equipment.

Metcar Grade M-133 is an oil-free, self-lubricating material that is utilized in machine applications where rubbing or sliding is required but oil and grease lubricants cannot be used. Typical applications for the carbon-graphite material include bearings, face seal rings, radial seal rings, piston rings, valve seats, vanes, rotors, end plates, cylinder liners, slides, runners and scrapers.

Manufacturers, regulators and customers look to NSF to develop public health standards and certifications that help protect food, water, consumer products and the environment. The NSF 51-2012 standard establishes requirements intended to ensure that a material is not formulated so that it may impart harmful substances to food in its intended use.

Materials that are approved to the NSF 51 standard must conform to all NSF 51 food equipment specifications, which are based on U.S. government regulations. Requirements include chemical migration, cleanability and corrosion resistance.

Metallized Carbon Corp. is ISO certified and has been manufacturing bearing solutions for severe operating environments since 1945.
