Maintaining Critical Equipment in the Pharmaceutical Industry

The pharmaceutical industry is one of the largest industries in the world, and the US holds approximately 45 percent of the global market. There are many elements of the industry that should be improved upon — more efficient practices, greater industry collaboration, and innovative manufacturing design. However, as a pharmaceutical plant strives to stay competitive and compliant with regulations, executive management and leadership must pay close attention to the organization’s maintenance performance.

While often overlooked or operating under a “run to failure” approach, maintenance is of critical importance for an organization’s success and ability to stay ahead of demand. Even though pharmaceutical plants are equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and tools, it’s not uncommon for maintenance staff to have room for improvement in their reliability strategy to keep critical equipment running in an optimum state.
