Klüber Unveils New Stern Tube Oils

Noria news wires

Klüber Lubrication recently introduced Klüberbio RM 2, a series of biodegradable, synthetic stern tube oils for the lubrication of propeller bushes and shaft seals in fixed-pitch and controllable-pitch propellers.

Formulated to provide ideal viscosity-temperature behavior, Klüberbio RM 2 oils facilitate the start-up of propellers at low temperatures. The synthetic oils also form a thick lubricating film at elevated temperatures, ensuring good wear protection.

Since even small amounts of oil leakage through propeller seals can significantly impact the environment when mineral oil-based lubricants are used, Klüberbio RM 2 oils contain more than 90 percent renewable raw materials and are non-toxic to marine organisms. They bear the European Ecolabel and comply with the requirements of the 2013 Vessel General Permit issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

"These new stern tube oils provide good resistance to oxidation and hydrolysis as well as thermal stability," said Ben Bryant, marine market manager for Klüber Lubrication. "This results in extended oil service life and reduced lubricant consumption and disposal costs."

Approved by the leading propeller shaft seal manufacturers, Klüberbio RM 2 oils are also miscible with mineral oil-based stern tube oils, making changeover easy.
