The National Lubricating Grease Institute, the trade organization for the lubricating grease industry, turns 75 this year! Come help us celebrate at the 75th NLGI annual meeting at Colonial Williamsburg Lodge in Williamsburg, Virginia. The meeting will take place June 7 through 10, 2008. Walk along the path of freedom and linger in the footsteps of the ordinary men and women who created a new country.

Activities
Recently, the Williamsburg Lodge was completely renovated with numerous property enhancements and accommodations reminiscent of a southern family home. This historic area, the birthplace of our nation, has much to offer. Tee off at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club or enjoy spa services at the Spa of Colonial Williamsburg. There are also numerous activities offered for children such as museums and theme parks.

Attendees and Presentations
The attendance at the annual meeting is always international. Between 25 and 30 grease-related papers are presented, including many written by authors outside of the United States. Papers are grouped according to subject matter and presented in group sessions. Copies of all technical papers are provided on DVD to attendees. There are still a few slots open for anyone interested in presenting a paper.

Schedule
The conference schedule includes networking receptions, a golf outing, fitness program, fun run, breakfast, education courses, technical presentations, grease working group meeting, CLGS exam and a recognition reception. The NLGI education courses include three two-day courses:

  • Basic Grease Education - This course covers the principles of manufacturing and marketing greases. Attendees learn the different types of greases, methods of manufacturing, testing methods and grease applications. Topics include basic grease course overview, soap-based grease, industrial applications, additives, marketing ideas and many more.

  • Advanced Grease Education - This course provides advanced instruction regarding specifications of grease, grease chemistry and specialized applications. Topics include special tests, soap manufacturing, steel mill greases, silicone greases and food-grade lubricants, among others.

  • Application and Maintenance Grease Education - This course covers selecting and troubleshooting greases and refining your in-plant maintenance procedures. It is useful for lubricant buyers, maintenance personnel and lube suppliers who need practical instruction.

Certification Opportunities
NLGI will once again offer its increasingly popular Certified Lubricating Grease Specialist (CLGS) examination at the annual meeting. NLGI recognizes CLGS individuals as grease industry experts who possess a high level of expertise in the field of grease. The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice, true/false and short-answer questions answered over a two-hour time limit. Some of the topics covered are manufacturing, components, grease types, compatibility, applications, testing, trends and problem solving.
