ISA announced recently that it will transfer its Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM) certification program to the Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) at the end of the year.

CIMM certification provides an unbiased, third-party, objective assessment and confirmation of the skills of industrial maintenance mechanics. Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics are responsible for preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, and perform troubleshooting and analysis.

“CIMM is an important way for maintenance mechanics to prove their skills in the workplace,” said Rod Lincoln of Cytec Industries, an ISA volunteer who helped to develop the program. “It’s also a critical way for management to show that they’re committed to safety, efficiency and professional development for their mechanics.”

SMRP is dedicated to facilitating information exchange through a structured network of maintenance and reliability professionals; supporting maintenance and reliability as an integral part of business management; and presenting a collective voice on maintenance and reliability issues to advance practices. The organization promotes and supports maintenance and reliability education for people, production, and quality processes to improve the work environment.

“SMRP’s focus and dedication to maintenance professionals ensures the future success of the CIMM program,” said ISA executive director and chief executive officer Patrick Gouhin. “CIMM is a great fit for SMRP because of their network of maintenance supervisors and managers, who will play an instrumental role in making CIMM a streamlined part of professional development for maintenance mechanics around the world.”

SMRP’s certification programs are well established, well respected, and have gained traction in the profession. The Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional designation has been very successful as an accredited certification program.

“ISA has developed a world class certification program for maintenance mechanics and SMRP is honored to have been chosen to administer the program in the future. The CIMM is a perfect complement to our ANSI-accredited Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) program,” said SMRP executive director Pat Winters.

ISA will continue to accept applications for the CIMM program through the end of the year and anticipates a smooth transition. For more information about CIMM, or other ISA certification programs, visit www.isa.org/certify or call 919-549-8411.
