Meggitt Sensing Systems, the manufacturer of Wilcoxon Research vibration sensors and sensor networks, passed annual audits to keep current the Germantown, Md., facility’s AS9100 Aerospace Standard for Quality Systems, ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certifications.

To maintain the AS9100 certification which was initially obtained in 2009, Meggitt Sensing Systems (MSS) underwent an audit of the Germantown facility’s employees, processes, and operations to ensure its quality assurance practices meet the requirements of the AS9100 Aerospace Standard for Quality Systems. It is a requirement to have AS9100 registration in order to provide products to the aerospace market. DNV Certifications conducted the audit in accordance with the AS9100 requirement of annual audits to maintain the validity of the registration.

MSS also renewed the Germantown facility’s ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System certification. Registration to ISO 9001:2000 demonstrates MSS’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement and ensures that a company has implemented effective processes to address the quality of the company’s products and services, satisfaction of its customers, and the continuous improvement of the company’s processes. Recertification is based upon MSS’s ability to demonstrate, not only that it had documented quality management principles and procedures, but also that it operates according to them. The Germantown facility first attained registration to ISO 9001 in 1998 and has maintained registration continuously to date.

Meggitt Sensing Systems’ Wilcoxon Research products are produced under a demanding quality management system.

“Meeting the AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards ensure the highest quality design, development, and manufacture of the Wilcoxon Research products,” said John Churchill, quality assurance director. “The dual registration demonstrates our commitment to aerospace and industrial customers alike.”

Published by the Internal Standards Organization, ISO 14001 establishes requirements for a company to analyze the impact it has on the environment, establish processes to improve its environmental impact, and ensure on-going review and compliance with all environmental requirements. Registration is valid for three years, subject to annual audits by the registrar. Wilcoxon was originally certified in 2006 and has just passed its annual renewal audit. The certification demonstrates Wilcoxon's commitment to the environment and dedication to reviewing the effect our operations have on the global community. Although ISO 14001 certification is voluntary, it is a requirement for Meggitt group companies, in line with Meggitt PLC’s corporate philosophy towards corporate responsibility and environment protection. Strict environmental standards are applied to Meggitt operations worldwide and guide the entire organization’s environmental behavior.
