Total recently launched a new line of fluids to meet the cooling and lubrication needs of electric and hybrid vehicles.
Total Quartz EV Fluid, which is intended for light vehicles, and Total Rubia EV Fluid, which is designed for industrial and utility vehicles as well as electric buses, are part of the company's climate strategy and ambition to reduce the carbon footprint of its products.
"Through extensive research efforts, we are proud to have developed products that align with the new needs of electric mobility," explains Philippe Charleux, Total's senior vice president of lubricants and specialties. "Integrated before the vehicles leave the factories, these high-performance fluids will accompany them throughout their service lives, benefitting all our customers."
The new fluids were formulated to help solve specific issues linked to engines and transmissions with high rotation speeds and the need to control heat exchange in electric batteries.
Total researchers focused their research and development efforts on four main characteristics required by electric or hybrid applications: dielectric properties, compatibility with new electrification components, rapid calorific evacuation during major accelerations or fast charges, and lubrication services for transmissions to protect their mechanical components and maintain optimal friction properties.
