Valvoline recently launched the first of its electric-vehicle-specific product and service offerings with the introduction of its EV Performance Fluids. The new product line, which includes grease, heat transfer fluids, drive system fluids and brake fluids, is designed for the distinct needs of the expanding number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road today.

The EV Performance Fluids are intended to solve common EV issues surrounding battery temperature variations, powertrain performance, brake system corrosion and seal bearing failure.

The heat transfer fluids are formulated to help vehicles maintain an optimized operational temperature, which in turn enables enhanced performance and sustained battery life. Formulations include fluids for battery applications, fuel-cell low-conductivity, low solids and charging applications.

The drive system fluids are engineered to meet the needs of multi-speed EV transmissions, featuring anti-corrosion, churning-loss reduction and electric-motor cooling across four formulas.

The brake fluids offer high boiling points (both wet and dry), noise elimination, brake fade reduction and low viscosity at low temperatures for today's advanced anti-lock brake systems, electronic stability programs and advanced driver assistance systems.

The grease is designed for EV motors and seal bearings to control electric conductivity.

"We've researched, tested and proven this line's capabilities in our own labs and using real-time data in real-world conditions," said Fran Lockwood, Valvoline’s chief technology officer. "That rigorous testing process from our technical team ensures that each EV Performance Fluid meets the highest standards of this rapidly advancing category."

Valvoline is expected to unveil additional EV products and services in the coming weeks.
